Feel Good Beauty Tips II

This week, I featured a list of beauty tricks to boost confidence in a matter of minutes. Today, I'm adding more to that list so you can feel at your best more often!

Moisturize
When you feel great in your own skin, you automatically radiate confidence thats noticeable everywhere you go. If your skin lacks moisture and is dry and dull, try making this your daily routine by applying your favorite lotion the minute you step out of the shower (when your pores are open and will absorb more moisture). In a matter of days you'll notice a big difference and the glow of healthy skin is a sure sign of confidence! Try Vaseline Sheer Infusion with Stratys 3, $8, and check out how it works:

Try a New Polish
Switching up your routine can be scary sometimes, but it can also lead to discovering new beauty products to fall in love with. If you don't want to do something too drastic like changing your hair color, try a new shade of nail polish! Try an awesome metallic or a bold hue and you'll be surprised at how a small change will make you fearless.

Get a Spray Tan
The safer alternative to bed-tanning, a spray tan is my ultimate confidence tool. Not only will it give you a sunkissed glow but you'll feel as happy as you did on your last island vacation, and the compliments aren't a bad confidence booster either! Most tanning salons now have a spray tanning machine or a personal technician. To find one near you, visit www.tanningnearyou.com. To do it yourself, check out Kandee Johnson's tutorial below:

Make Your Eyes Pop
There's nothing more confident than a beautiful gaze. There are tons of make-up products out there personalized to intensify your eye color. Almay makes a great line of cosmetics for hazel, blue, brown and green eyes. Also, try Covergirl ExactEyelights Brightening Mascara, $7.

Feel Good Beauty Tips

Confidence is without a doubt a girl's best beauty tool. For those days when you might not feel your best and need a quick pick-me-up, here are a few of my favorite beauty tricks that are sure to give you that instant confidence boost!

Rock a Red Lip
There's nothing that screams confidence more than a bold lip color. Make sure to use a matching lipliner to get that flawless look. I love Elf Lipstick in Cheerful Cherry, $5.

Brighten Your Smile

A beautiful smile can really get you noticed and make you want to show your pearly whites any chance you get. Unfortunately, some whitening kits out there can set you back some hefty bucks. To get a bright, white smile for a fraction of the cost, check out Kandee Johnson's tutorial below:

Take a Warm Bubble Bath

Whenever I feel rundown, there's nothing like a soothing bath to de-stress and lift my spirits right up! Just set aside time once a week to relax, light some candles, play your favorite tunes (check out our article on feel good music) and recharge those batteries. This will help you feel refreshed and ready for anything life throws your way! Bath And Body Works has a great selection of bath products to fit your needs.

Work Your Hair Color
Confidence is not about changing your look, but feeling great about your true roots and being the best YOU that you can be. To give your natural hair color a shine boost, try John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze. They come in four shades; Brunettes, Blondes, Redheads and Clear (for all other hair colors).

Editor's Note: Stay tuned for Part II of Feel Good Beauty Tips this Saturday!

Back 2 School Hair!

One Month Before
A Great Haircut

To get a head start before the frenzy of back to school season, the perfect haircut will get rid of any split ends and give you a healthy, fresh look. This will help in cutting down how much time you otherwise might spend trying to mask those dead ends with countless hair products. Healthy hair is also more manageable, so it'll be easier and faster to style it in the morning!

One Week Before
Deep Condition

To undo the damage of the blistering summer heat and harsh pool chemicals, you'll need to repair your locks with a once-a-week deep conditioning treatment. Try Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask, $8. I personally love making my own hair masks at home. This tutorial shows you how to make a simple conditioning mask with natural ingredients:

The Night Before
The Perfect Texture

If you want to alter your hair texture (from curly to straight, or vice versa) the best time to do so is right before bed. If you curl, straighten, crimp or wave your hair the night before, the only thing left to do the next morning is touch-up and style.

The Morning Of
Touch Up & Accessorize

Touch up any imperfections from sleeping on your locks, or better yet, try a messy, tousled bed-head look. Simply spray on a texturizing spray like Garnier Fructis Style Surf Hair Texturizing Spray, $6. It's a stylish and low-maintenance do that'll make you look like you just walked off the beach and into the classroom.

Also, adding a couple of cute hair pins or an awesome headband will instantly give you a gorgeous look without the effort and hassle. Check out my tutorial on how to make your own feather headbands!

In-between Classes
Maintain Your Look

Pack a couple of reinforcements in your bag, like extra bobby pins or clips. That way, you can maintain your look during bathroom breaks. Most hair products also come in these cute travel sizes, so you can even toss one in your purse for times when you'll need to touch up your hair the most, like right after Phys-Ed. Can't find your favorite styling products in mini sizes? Make your own! You can get travel size bottles and add any of your hair essentials for instant on the go beauty.

6 Hot Summer Hairstyles!

Summer is just around the corner, and this year it's all about boho braids, loose updos and tousled twists. I've come up with a list of the best hairstyles this season to give you an effortlessly beautiful summer look. Follow these step-by-step instructions and you'll be beach ready in no time!

The Flirty Fishtail
Nothing says summer like this fishtail braid!

Step 1: Spritz a conditioning spray all over dry hair for shine, then create a side part. Try: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Care Daily Nourishment Leave-In Conditioning Spray, $6

Step 2: Braid hair into a fishtail, starting two inches from the hairline opposite the side part. Working with two sections of hair, pull a skinny strand of hair from the outside of the left section and add to the right side. Repeat on the right side. Do this technique until you get to the ends, then secure with a band.

Step 3: Pull out the sides of the braid slightly to give it braid a messy boho feel and to create those cool, wispy flyaways.

The Curly Undone Bun

If you have supercurly hair, try this pretty updo!

Step 1: Wash your hair and while it's wet, apply a moisturizing cream. Try: TIGI Bed Head Foxy Curls Contour Cream, $9. Then blow-dry using a diffuser, scrunching up from ends to roots.

Step 2: Use an extra dab of curling cream to slick back any loose pieces around your hairline. Clip in a couple cute flowers and voila! Try: Forever 21 Mesh Up Hair Clips, $2.50

The Soft Braided Updo

Try this romantic look for a summer date night!

Step 1: Apply a curl-enhancing cream to damp hair, avoiding your roots so your hair doesn't get too heavy. Try: VO5 Extreme Style Curl Defining Creme, $3

Step 2: Blow dry hair with diffuser to keep curls from getting frizzy. Once dry, french braid a three-inch section  of hair on each side of your head just above your ears. (For french braiding tutorials, click here).

Step 3: Gather the french braids along with the remaining hair in the back (keep the front loose and swept to the side) and begin braiding it traditionally until all of your hair is incorporated. Tuck up the end of the braid and wrap an elastic around the base and end of the braid. Try: Good ColorCollection Elastics, $3 for a pack of 10

The Rolled 'Do

If you have straight hair, try a rolled updo for a cute summer look!

Step 1: Rub a bit of styling wax onto dry hair to give your strands some grip. Try: Bumble and Bumble Styling Wax, $8. Part your hair slightly off-center, then roll the front section of one side into a twist, pinning it against your head as you go. Repeat on opposite side.

Step 2: When both sides are complete, cross the twisted ends of your hair over each other and tuck them in. Use hairspray as you go to prevent flyaways from slipping out. Try: Pantene Pro-V Texturize Hairspray, $4

Step 3: Secure your hair with plain bobby pins to make sure it stays, then use a pretty hairpin to accessorize. Try: Forever 21 Triple Jewel Bobby Pins, $2.80

If You're In a Time Crunch, Try These 5 Minute Summer Hairdos!

The Summer Twists

Rub texturizing wax onto damp strands and let hair air-dry. Try: Bumble and Bumble Styling Wax, $8. Take a two-inch section of hair at your hairline and divide it into two equal pieces; twisting them around each other until you reach the ends and secure with a clear elastic. Repeat on the other side, then gently tousle hair so the twists blend in.

The Woven Braid

Gather just the sides of your hair (from your temples to the tops of your ears) into a wide elastic, then wrap a small piece of leather (available at any craft store) around it for a boho feel. Gently tug the braid to loosen it some more; add gloss with a shine spray. Try: got2b Dazzling Shine Spray, $6

Make-up Goodies Starting at $1!

It wouldn’t be an Affordable Issue without a list of make-up essentials that won't cost you an arm and a leg. With eyeshadows ranging from $15 a pop, it’s sometimes hard to stay on budget in the make-up aisle. But just because you can’t splurge on department store brands doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on quality! There are tons of affordable make-up products out there that will give you that same flawless look. I've narrowed down some of the must-haves that are sure to give you more bang for your buck!

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation, $7.59

This is my all-time favorite affordable foundation. Its revolutionary whipped formula gives you that barely there feeling with great coverage.

e.l.f. Tone Correcting Concealer, $1

It’s hard to believe that this amazing concealer is only a buck, but you’ll be a fan of this brand from the first time you try it, I guarantee it! This will surely cover up any imperfections and at this price it’s proof that make-up doesn’t have to be expensive to do wonders!

Coastal Scents Eyeshadow Palette, $18.95

These awesome palettes come with a total of 88 shades and at $18.95 that’s an average of 22 cents per eyeshadow! But don’t think you’ll be compromising on quality. They’re so highly pigmented that you won’t need to apply much, making them last a really long time.

Waterproof Eyeliner Pen, $1

This sleek liquid liner will give you that glamorous look, and in the form of a pen you’ll get perfect precision every time. And, yes, you guessed it, it’s only a dollar!

e.l.f. Super Glossy Lip Shine Spf 15, $1

Okay, you can probably tell by now that I love this brand! It’s not only a great deal, but it also does everything you want your lipgloss to do. Great shine, a sweet scent, a yummy flavor and an SPF 15 to boot!

13 Affordable Hair Products!

We all know that maintaining those perfect tresses is not only time consuming, but it can also burn a pretty big hole in your wallet. According to a survey conducted by TRESemme, women spend more than $160 a year on shampoos and conditioners alone! That may sound crazy to some of you, but I assure you that you may be spending a lot more than you think on hair care products. Thankfully, it is possible to stick to a budget without compromising on the end result. Here are some of my personal favorite hair care products that won’t break the bank!

Shampoos & Conditioners

This is a great combination that's rich, but won't strip your hair of its natural oils.

This will leave your hair manageable and easy to style!

Masks & Treatments

Adds shine and eliminates frizz all in one.

A luxurious treat to repair tired hair.

This will make your hair feel healthy to the touch.

Locks down the cuticle to stay frizz-free.

For Stubborn Tangles

Full of invigorating essential oils.

This will rid your hair of knots.

For the Curly Curls

This will give you soft, never-crunchy, curls.

For the Pin Straight

Most ceramic straighteners will set you back at least $50. For less than half that price, this is a great tool that will do just the trick!

For the Finishing Touches

Gives a nice sheen without being greasy—but make sure you apply it to the ends!

Adds shine, texture and volume with a great hold.

Tames flyaways and smooths edges of hair.
